Great Northern Industry Training, located in Hines Creek, Alberta

Great Northern Industry Training ... learn from qualified instructors with industry experience. Your 5-week course includes classroom study, simulator training, hands-on equipment training and a 1-week work experience practicum.

Great Northern Industry Training (GNIT) exists to address industry demands for a skilled entry-level workforce. This demand is based on industry research that identifies limited skilled operators and front line skilled workers. GNIT training centres meet this challenge by offering entry-level training for equipment operators.

A typical course for operators of earthmoving equipment lasts five weeks, with one week spent in the classroom/lab and three weeks spent in the field operating the equipment. The final week is a practicum with a potential employer. A comprehensive study and practice of oilfield safety and procedures is part of the participant's entry-level training. Certification at entry-level is the prerequisite for equipment training.

A crucial component for the future of the heavy equipment sector will be training and development initiatives. Participants will be encouraged toward enterprise development courses, and guided in the steps necessary to develop their own businesses.
